OUR BACKGROUND
GALAXY CASTINGS is a local production company founded by KWF and AFDA alumni Llewellyn Breda alongside The River, Rhythm City, Getroud Met Rugby and 7de Laan’s Denzil Booysen as well as Local community and youth developer Pastor Marshall Geswint. Humansdorp has been highlighted on SABC for the following four years for gang violence, killings, substance abuse and Gender-based Violence. Communities are infested with hopelessness as more than proven 80 youth has been killed in the last three years through vicious crimes. Apart from crime, the communities in the Kouga region are also struggling with employment and constant social development. Galaxy Castings is currently playing a vital role in providing a platform through film production for Humansdorp and surrounding areas where youth challenges as mentioned exist.
WHY JOIN HANDS WITH US?
The Kouga Wind Farmand Tsitsi-kamma, has spent over an estimated R2 million investing in our creative arts and media as a community via the past and current AFDA students alone. Sad to say but this investment has stayed dormant or unfruitful up until now as most AFDA students aside from myself are caught in a paradox of being qualified but lacking experience to get a foot in the industry. This dilemma only worsens when one adds in the tough nature of the filming industry that requires them to leave the Eastern Cape and go live in Cape Town or Johannesburg where opportunities comeby more frequently. However, even if these previously disadvantaged youngsters find a way to get 3-5 months of rent to go and scour these expensive cities for work and end up successful, in what way can they enact the spirit of Ubuntu and immediately give back to their communities? One of the films created by me and fellow KWF and TWF alumni has received international acclaim in Canada amongst 13 000 entries from 120 countries world wide. Sad to say but one of those KWF students is currently working at a tillpoint at Checkers. Situations like this are the current reason why that enormous investment of more than R2million is unbearing in its fruits.
However through this project and joining hands with us, the Wind Farms can not only save and get a return on that investment but also help us enrich and empower our region by creating a sustainable film and media industry here.
.

PROJECT SUSTAINABILITY FILM TRAINING
As a filming entity, we believe in the power of sustainability. To reach our goal towards sustainability we will be embarking on a journey towards the training and development of youth within the Arts Space. We are currently sitting with a huge amount of school drop-outs in Humansdorp and many kids cannot go back to school because of different reasons like crime, gangsterism and ongoing violence happening in Humansdorp.
During the production of the film called Kruisfontein we will be hosting different workshops where interested young people and also those involved in the making of the film be given the opportunity to learn some skills and as the film will be produced the same trainees will learn on set. We have met with the head of education of the Sarah Baartman district as we currently targeting about 20 youths to be a part of the training and we hope to
provide them with a Certificate after the course.
We are currently in discussion with the Head Of Education to start a one-month short film course after we are done with the shooting of the film. This will not only introduce kids to the film industry but also help them craft their own stories over the course of 3 weeks ( with our world-class professional gear). By the 4th week film will be edited and a film BY THE KIDS FOR THE KIDS
will be played during the assembly addressing each school’/communities issues.
PROJECT SUSTAINABILITY TELENOVELA/LONG FORM SERIES
Our vision is to establish the very first Telenovela right here in Kouga, Humansdorp in the Eastern Cape. The funds created by this film will enable us to get more gear and facilities so we can shoot a world-class series. ( both this film script and series script has been written by myself and an acclaimed writer at Mnet (Solly Masiza) hence we are sure it will perform and attract. The main reason we want to create a sustainable industry is that we know the number of funds film can bring to our region but also so that all local film students from AFDA and NMMU can have a place to intern and gain experience to ultimately break free of the aforementioned paradox.
